Breakout Areas

Having a gorgeous breakout area for your guests is the perfect way to keep that relaxed atmosphere you’re trying to create going throughout the night. Whether you go for couches and little tables, or blankets and cushions, it’s a great way to allow your nearest and dearest to feel comfortable.

Artists in the 19th century, the bohemians were known for being free-spirited dreamers inspired by art, beauty and nature. The boho wedding trend reflects their carefree lifestyle and romantic passion, with an emphasis placed on creating a fun but relaxed atmosphere.

Get Creative with the Details
Boho celebrations are perfectly imperfect. But the key is to keep your colours warm and romantic with influences from nature throughout. Traditionally, bohemians dressed and decorated with whatever they could find, so embrace your inner ‘DIY goddess’ and add hand crafted, artistic touches.
Dress up your venue with flowers and fairy lights. Bouquets should look as though they were hand-picked from the garden. Floral arrangements and centre pieces can utilize different sized bottles and jars filled with foliage and garden roses. Twinkling lights, lanterns and candles will also add a special flair to your boho wedding. Fairy lights are a great way to add ambiance as well as being relatively cheap. Feather detailing is another beautiful boho touch. Add feathers to floral arrangements, hang them from garlands or adorn place cards…there are so many options!
Consider picnic style dining. If this isn’t feasible (not everyone enjoys sitting on the ground) a main meal served ‘family style’ works well with the easy going atmosphere.  Keep with the earthy vibe by swapping out conventional table décor for rustic metallics.

Provide a lounge area with quirky cushions for guests who aren’t dancing (or taking a break!). Break out areas are key for maintaining your relaxed atmosphere. With couches and cushions, you can create cosy nook that will allow your guests to feel comfortable.

Draping course - Art principles for draping

Our blog focuses on providing up to date info and ideas on the latest news and trends in the draping industry. We want to inspire our students and our clients across the country and even around the world to create and inspire the most exquisite draping for events and weddings. For information on our latest draping courses and specials visit our website www.ectaint.com or follow the links to DrapingWedding Planning and Decor courses. We offer in-class, correspondence and for our internet addicted students, online. Enrol today! For our video tutorials, please click here!

Art principles for draping

I've decided to write a few articles about art principles for draping. This is just another way of supporting our ECTA CREATIVE SOLUTIONS Draping students. The problem is that sometimes a client comes with a specific brief and because you are new to the draping industry - you don't always know how to help the client. If you have any such questions - pls feel free to contact us and we will do our best to help you and give you some advice on how to do the draping for your client.

In this article we are going to look at lines, colour and repetition in draping. Please not that this is not a draping that we've done ourselves but a photo that I got on the site of aliexpress - a company that sells draping.

Most people in South Africa will say that this backdrop is a little bit to much for them. To many swags, curtains etc. As I normally says to my students: Styles of draping and details on draping will be different for different cultures, areas and countries. As an example: in South Africa the brides in Durban will love lots of draping, swags, colours and details. The brides in Cape Town will mostly go with a more clean cut simple style of backdrop.

There are a few things that I want to point out in this photo. First of all - look at the placement of the backdrop on this stage. The backdrop does not cover the whole wall area but because of the placement of the large backdrop and the smaller backdrop, your eyes are drawn to them and not the wall at the back.

The second thing I want you to notice is the way that they have used the principal of repetition. In other words... If you draw a line in the middle of this picture - both sides will look exactly the same. This is one of the most important principals to remember when you are planning and doing a draping.

Happy Draping!

Flower trends for 2015 - Spring break

Spring break wedding trend for 2015

Spring break stand for everything that is happy, joyful and pretty. Now you can ask me how on earth am I suppose to bring that into a wedding theme. Spring break is one of the easiest colour schemes that you can work with. You can mix and match bright colour flowers - but remember - choose light breezy flowers - not heavy flowers that will be used traditionally at very smart elegant functions.

When you do the arranging of your center pieces remember to keep the style as loose and light hearted as the flowers are. Don't try and make stiff and formal flowers. It must look as if you've picked wildflowers and just put it in a vase.

When you make a wedding posy for the spring break theme try and keep it as loose as possible! For a brilliant article on such a wedding posy go to the following site. http://greenweddingshoes.com/diy-farmers-market-bouquet/

Types of flowers that you can consider:

Hibiscus

 Gerbera

Peonies
 Eucaluptus leaves

Poppies

Dahlias

Ideas for Arch and Gazebo draping in the Spring Break colors!

To take further our previous discussion on the wedding trends and colors for 2015.... I've decided to put together some ideas for draping of an arch or gazebo - using those spring break colors.

Remember not to try and use all the colors in the gazebo. Rather choose two or three of the main colours for the decor of the gazebo... the rest you can add through flowers or ribbons etc.

Weightless and Timeless.... These words makes you think of feathers flying around... Soft and breezy...

Therefore it is important that you play around with the colors in this colour scheme. Don't use to much of one of the colours but let it flow together in one timeless piece of art... to be remembered a long time after the wedding.

Wedding planning - Study at home

Wedding planning course

I think it is one of the most rewarding jobs that there is. Being a wedding planner... being able to see the joy on the face of the bride when she walks down the isle.... being the person that will help make her dreams come true for her wedding day!

Just think about it - most girls will dream their whole life about their wedding day. They will first start to play weddings with their friends, when they are older - they will start dreaming about prince charming and the beautiful wedding dress that goes with that.

That’s not all... add to that the fact that you will be the person that will need to organize the day to the most final details - from the cake, the dress, the honeymoon, the reception to name a few. Think about all the human emotions that flow at a wedding. Mother in law and the bride, mother in law with the bride’s mom - I can not count how many times me or my staff had to help make peace between two warring factions! But it is all in a days work.

If you think a wedding planner is just sitting behind her computer and organizing the wedding - think again! You will have to know about the latest trends in the wedding industry, you will have to be able to advise the client what is the best way to go about with their budget and you will have to know how to make the best with the money that the bride have available for her dream day!

I always say that it is not difficult to make a dream come true with a budget of R200 000.00. What makes you a GREAT wedding planner is if you can take a small budget of a bride and groom and STILL make their wedding day a huge success!

Come and learn the tricks of the trade!

ECTA Creative Solutions have just launched their Wedding Planning Correspondence course!

Enroll in April 2013 and get the course for R2500 instead of the normal R3500.

Draping courses

Decor and Draping courses

Many people ask us why do I need to do a draping and decor course... the answer is very simple.

* Do you want to be the best in the industry?
* Do you want to stand out from the rest of the people in the industry?
* Would you like to learn from the experts on how to do an excellent job?
* Staying ahead in the industry - be the first one to get notified of new trends in the industry?

That is only a few reasons why you need to do our courses!

What is a concern for me is the fact that so many new course suppliers is popping up. Just this morning I saw a new FET college in Durban that is advertising a One Day course where they will teach you how to drape from tables rights through to ceilings.

Now anyone that is in the industry knows that it is ridiculous to even think you can learn all of the skills in one day – not a chance. Yet – people falls for that illusion and go and pay for such courses.

My mother always told me that if something looks to good – it probably IS too good. I really want to encourage prospective students to start looking at the content of what these colleges offer. Is it really all that there is in the industry – to know where to put a cable tie – or is it better to go to a more advance course where they will teach you about the ins and outs of the industry – explaining to you why you need to do something – giving you real life examples – teaching you what to do and what not to do!

I always say to my students: why must you pay the price for your mistakes – if you can learn from mine?

Wedding courses

Special of the century

ECTA Creative Solutions have a great special in Cape Town for ALL of their courses! For the first time ever and possibly the last time …. You can do all of the 8 practical events courses in Somerset West for R5000.00!

Many people asked us but why would we even think of advertising a R25 000 course for only R5 000? Let me explain why we are having such a huge special.

NNNOOOOOO…. There is nothing wrong with our courses – because some people think there must be something wrong with the courses that we will do such a crazy thing. The biggest reason for this DEAL OF THE CENTURY is the fact that we are expanding!

As you know we have already started with courses in Nairobi – Kenya but Devine Schools Africa wants to take these courses also to Mombasa, Tanzania, Rwanda, Ethiopia and a few other East Africa states.

That’s not all … We are in negotiations with FCE – Foundation for Cross Cultural Education to start presenting our courses in Namibia, Malawi, Zambia and India. What a great and awesome privilege that won’t be. To be able to go to all these countries to present our courses!

That’s not all: We are also preparing for Zimbabwe, Mozambique, Belgium and USA. What more can we ask. Now you will ask me – what does this have to do with the course special? We decided that we need to train new facilitators that will help us fly all over the world and present these classes to our international students. From the 28th of January to the 22nd of February 2013 we will have 20 young people together where we will start to teach them how to present our courses.

These young people are all students that expressed a desire to do mission work in Africa and different countries. Elect will make it possible for them to go to different countries, present the courses, have a good income BUT they will also be able to do a lot of outreaches in the countries where we send them.

Because of the fact that we have to present these classes to the soon to be facilitators – we decided that we can take in 5 private students at this amazing special. Unfortunately the course price does not include any manuals, kits and extras like flowers etc.

We will ask you to take notes – and if you want to buy a manual – you are welcome. We will also ask you to bring a few things to class. When we have table setting and centre piece class – we will ask you to bring one bunch of flowers. Not too much to ask if you can get a course for such a good price?

The month long course is going to include the following courses:

Wedding planning,

Draping Foundation,

Draping Advance,

 Event Design foundation,

Event Design Advance,

Kids party planning,

Table setting and centre pieces,

Protocol and Etiquette.

These courses will take place at the Bay Christian Family Church – Gants Centre – Somerset West from the 28th of January to the 22nd of February 2013 from Monday to Saturday - 8am – 5pm.

The normal price for our courses is R25 380.00 BUT for this amazing special you will only pay R5000.00 for all 8 courses. We can only accommodate 5 students at this price.

Terms and Conditions apply for the special.
