Boho beach wedding

"To days of inspiration,
playing hookey, making
something out of nothing,
the need to express---
To communicate,
to going against the grain,
going insane, going mad" -- Jonathan Larson (La Vie Boheme, The RENT Musical)

I love Bohemianism! I am perhaps not you would call a hardcore, but I've always thought that I am a Bohemian at heart. Bohemianism is in essence going against convention. It's about finding "Freedom, Beauty, Truth, and Love" --some would say that these are the most basic doctrines of the Bohemian culture. Lifestyle and style-wise this translates to the most organic, most natural, and most free-spirited you could ever go for.

It would even be hypocritical to "dictate" what a Bohemian Beach wedding should look like for the simple reason that the very core of being Bohemian is having no rules at all.

The above is an extraction out of the rebellious bride’s blog. If you ever thought of have a bohemian wedding you have to go and read their blog!

Let's look at some ideas for a bohemian beach wedding. It is kind of weird to give you ideas about the elements of a bohemian style. After all: anything can go for a bohemian-themed wedding. It is truly about the fact that you need to put together the elements that you love

For a truly bohemian bride, you will have to make the decor up as you go along, putting together the things that you love, that you have around, that you can lend from friends or find at flea markets.  And that’s awesome. In my view, wedding design should always be about what you love rather than conforming to what you think is expected of you. But let’s be honest, boho has become a ‘look’, and if that’s a look you’re trying to achieve you have to bring some of the boho elements.

There are certain elements that immediately scream boho – a flower crown, a fishtail braid, perhaps a lace dress, a ceremony out in the open, a picnic-style reception.We are focussing on the less obvious details that you could include in your wedding styling that would still help to create a boho vibe.

Some of the elements that you will get at most bohemian weddings.

Wedding attire:

*  Mismatched Boho Bridesmaids
*  Flower crown
*  Bare feet
*  Ankle Cuffs
*  Moroccan, Gypsy or Indian detail
*  Leather belts
*  Bridegrooms: Casual or Linnen suits

Wedding ceremony:

*  Strips of ribbon or old fabric
*  Macrame detail
*  Natural elements like drift wood and shells

*  Picnic type reception
*  Natural elements like drift wood and shells

What does Bohemian mean...

#what it means to be bohemian #boho chic

However, you try and define Bohemian or Boho ... it is really fun, natural and earthy. When you want to add a Vintage feel to it, use items that say loud and clearly "I am old!" Think about Grandma's old crochet blankets, some old kitchen equipment, an old writing desk to mention a few. Have you ever thought you can use your grandma's wedding dress again... this is the perfect dress for a Vintage Bohemian wedding.

Vintage bohemian ceremony ideas: The best location for a vintage bohemian wedding would be in a forest, park or backyard where you have a lot of trees and lawn. Make use of any old chairs that you can get for the guests to sit on. If you can not get old chairs - make use of hay bales with old knitted or crochet blankets on it. If you are going to get an arch for you wedding, you can definitely make use of the trees to create a natural arch with. The other options are to make use of old doors, old ladders, branches from trees etc. A wonderful resource for anyone that is thinking about a boho wedding is: http://greenweddingshoes.com/?s=vintage+boho+wedding

How can you carry the vintage bohemian theme through to your reception, The easiest is to make sure that you bring the same elements and colors to your reception. Think of old furniture, old bottles, old books and add to that the mixture of wild flowers. When you decide on your flowers you have to forget about the traditional way of flowers for a wedding. Think of a little girl walking in the meadow and picking flowers for her mother. That is the best way to describe the centre pieces for a wedding. any old bottle, old canister, old pot can be used as vases for this type of centre piece.

There are a few important things to keep in mind when you are planning a beach wedding… thing can go wrong very easily when you get married at a beach!

Ensure the comfort of your guests
Do you need umbrellas… or maybe a Bedouin tent for shade or even to give shelter for an unexpected rain storm? There is nothing so bad as having a wedding on the beach and the wind is blowing very strong.

A few things you can think of:

·       -   Sunscreen for your guests
·        -  Parasols for your guests
·       -   Cold water for your guests
·       -   Make sure there is easy accessible parking for the guests
·      -    I it is an evening wedding think of making a fire on the beach BUT please get permission from your local authority before making a fire on the beach.
·       -   Make sure there are toilet facilities for the guests
·      -    Make sure you say on your invite that a part of the wedding will take place on the beach so people can wear the correct clothes and shoes

Have backup!
You hope and pray for good weather but Mother Nature often has her own agenda. You have to have a backup plan if you are planning a beach wedding.

Don’t be blown away
Make sure your hair stylist knows that you will get married on the beach so they can suggest a few styles that will work well for your hair in the wind. Again… Please organise a backup for your wedding venue in case of Gale force winds.

Acoustics
Make sure that you have a professional person to do your sound because the noise of the wind and the crashing waves can cause havoc with sound.

Know your beach
Make sure you know what time is high tide and what time is low tide at the beach. Visit the site before the time during high tide – you don’t want to be caught unexpectedly by the high tide!

Service providers
Make sure the service providers knows the exact location of the beach. It is very important to have a site visit with all your service providers. Service providers must make sure that they know how long it will take to carry chairs down the mountain, they must know what food will last in the hot and windy conditions etc.

Privacy
When you decide on a spot for your wedding - try and get a place that will be semi private. You will avoid a few possible awkward

Pests
If it is an evening wedding make sure that you provide citronella candles as décor to keep the mosquitoes away. Make sure the food are covered well – seagulls are very quick to steal some food.

Permits
Before you start planning your beach wedding make sure that you get a permit from your local authority.

Restrooms
Are there restrooms close by? Make sure they are in a reasonable condition. If there are no restrooms you will have to consider renting some portable toilets.

Other
Keep in mind that you will possible have to bring in water and electricity to the beach where you want to get married. Make sure you find out from the local authorities if you may bring in a generator for your wedding. Make sure you get a waste removal company to clean up the beach after the wedding!
