There are a few important things to keep in mind when you are planning a beach wedding… thing can go wrong very easily when you get married at a beach!

Ensure the comfort of your guests
Do you need umbrellas… or maybe a Bedouin tent for shade or even to give shelter for an unexpected rain storm? There is nothing so bad as having a wedding on the beach and the wind is blowing very strong.

A few things you can think of:

·       -   Sunscreen for your guests
·        -  Parasols for your guests
·       -   Cold water for your guests
·       -   Make sure there is easy accessible parking for the guests
·      -    I it is an evening wedding think of making a fire on the beach BUT please get permission from your local authority before making a fire on the beach.
·       -   Make sure there are toilet facilities for the guests
·      -    Make sure you say on your invite that a part of the wedding will take place on the beach so people can wear the correct clothes and shoes

Have backup!
You hope and pray for good weather but Mother Nature often has her own agenda. You have to have a backup plan if you are planning a beach wedding.

Don’t be blown away
Make sure your hair stylist knows that you will get married on the beach so they can suggest a few styles that will work well for your hair in the wind. Again… Please organise a backup for your wedding venue in case of Gale force winds.

Acoustics
Make sure that you have a professional person to do your sound because the noise of the wind and the crashing waves can cause havoc with sound.

Know your beach
Make sure you know what time is high tide and what time is low tide at the beach. Visit the site before the time during high tide – you don’t want to be caught unexpectedly by the high tide!

Service providers
Make sure the service providers knows the exact location of the beach. It is very important to have a site visit with all your service providers. Service providers must make sure that they know how long it will take to carry chairs down the mountain, they must know what food will last in the hot and windy conditions etc.

Privacy
When you decide on a spot for your wedding - try and get a place that will be semi private. You will avoid a few possible awkward

Pests
If it is an evening wedding make sure that you provide citronella candles as décor to keep the mosquitoes away. Make sure the food are covered well – seagulls are very quick to steal some food.

Permits
Before you start planning your beach wedding make sure that you get a permit from your local authority.

Restrooms
Are there restrooms close by? Make sure they are in a reasonable condition. If there are no restrooms you will have to consider renting some portable toilets.

Other
Keep in mind that you will possible have to bring in water and electricity to the beach where you want to get married. Make sure you find out from the local authorities if you may bring in a generator for your wedding. Make sure you get a waste removal company to clean up the beach after the wedding!

Draping course - Art principles for draping

Our blog focuses on providing up to date info and ideas on the latest news and trends in the draping industry. We want to inspire our students and our clients across the country and even around the world to create and inspire the most exquisite draping for events and weddings. Art principles for draping

I've decided to write a few articles about art principles for draping. This is just another way of supporting our ECTA CREATIVE SOLUTIONS Draping students. The problem is that sometimes a client comes with a specific brief and because you are new to the draping industry - you don't always know how to help the client. If you have any such questions - pls feel free to contact us and we will do our best to help you and give you some advice on how to do the draping for your client.

In this article we are going to look at lines, colour and repetition in draping. Please not that this is not a draping that we've done ourselves but a photo that I got on the site of aliexpress - a company that sells draping.

Most people in South Africa will say that this backdrop is a little bit to much for them. To many swags, curtains etc. As I normally says to my students: Styles of draping and details on draping will be different for different cultures, areas and countries. As an example: in South Africa the brides in Durban will love lots of draping, swags, colours and details. The brides in Cape Town will mostly go with a more clean cut simple style of backdrop.

There are a few things that I want to point out in this photo. First of all - look at the placement of the backdrop on this stage. The backdrop does not cover the whole wall area but because of the placement of the large backdrop and the smaller backdrop, your eyes are drawn to them and not the wall at the back.

The second thing I want you to notice is the way that they have used the principal of repetition. In other words... If you draw a line in the middle of this picture - both sides will look exactly the same. This is one of the most important principals to remember when you are planning and doing a draping.

Happy Draping!

Unspoken colour scheme - Wedding cakes

This colourscheme is ideal for the soft spirited, dreamy and romantic bride. Think about crisp summer mist, think about the streets of tuscany with their terracotta tiles and add a little bit of leather to finish it off.

Try and keep the wedding cake colours in the soft Weathered Sandstone colours or a light camel/biscuit colour. For decorations you can use burlap ribbon or lace. A very good idea for this theme is to make a cheese cake. Buying whole cheeses - top them onto each other and decorate with flowers and fruit!

Wedding cake ideas in the Spring Break theme

If you are planning a wedding in the Spring Break colour scheme and you start thinking on how you will make your wedding cake:

Here is a few pointers:

First of all - keep the overall look and feel in mind when choosing a wedding cake. The words describing Spring Break is Happy, Light hearted, Joyful, Memories etc. Choose a cake that is not to formal!

Choose a cake in the basic color schemes that you've decided to use for the wedding. Normally it is easier if you do the wedding cake in traditional white and just add the flowers in your colour scheme.

Try and add a few fun elements! Think of Surf Boards, Island Flowers and Shells.

Spring break wedding trend for 2015

Spring break stand for everything that is happy, joyful and pretty. Now you can ask me how on earth am I suppose to bring that into a wedding theme. Spring break is one of the easiest colour schemes that you can work with. You can mix and match bright colour flowers - but remember - choose light breezy flowers - not heavy flowers that will be used traditionally at very smart elegant functions.

When you do the arranging of your center pieces remember to keep the style as loose and light hearted as the flowers are. Don't try and make stiff and formal flowers. It must look as if you've picked wildflowers and just put it in a vase.

When you make a wedding posy for the spring break theme try and keep it as loose as possible! For a brilliant article on such a wedding posy go to the following site. http://greenweddingshoes.com/diy-farmers-market-bouquet/

Types of flowers that you can consider:

Hibiscus

 Gerbera

Peonies
 Eucaluptus leaves

Poppies

Dahlias
